This design’s purpose is to promote a coffee shop and or
cafe. The sender, probably the shop owner, wants to convey to people that this
is the place to be in the morning, mainly to those individuals that would
benefit from free Wi-Fi. Using a familiar designing tactic, the designer
utilizes minimalism on colors, shapes, and the economy of space used by the
graphic. This gives strength and clarity to the design and the message that it
gives. Suggesting the idea of combining coffee shops and Internet users is so
apparent that it practically puts the viewer in that scenario.
The design solely using punctuation marks to create an
object is not necessarily an original or let alone unique Idea, However, that may
add to its overall message. The reason why is that these types of punctuation
illustrations seem to be commonly used in computer or cell phone communication,
so when we are confronted with these little images our minds are take to what
we associate with them with, which is electronics. This really plays to the designer’s advantage
because of the audience he and the sender are trying to communicate to. On
first glance you can tell it is some kind of container holding a hot liquid of
some sorts. Then you realize it is a coffee mug composed of punctuation marks,
this gives the association between coffee and electronics.
The fact that this design is so clean and clear with its
message makes it effective and memorable.
This designer used a creative but not uncommon way to reach his viewers
that satisfies the coffee owners/sender’s intention. The concept of combining
two characteristics of their audience and doing it in such a way that it calls
the viewer to action is simply how this designer puts her viewers in the coffee
shop scenario. Clarity is key.
